2-Stage Cigarette Filter Technology: What TS Teer STOP Delivers

Published: January 15, 2026 • Updated: April 10, 2026 • 5 min read

TS Teer STOP uses a patented 2-stage filtration system to capture tar residue before it passes through. This guide explains the mechanics behind each stage, the materials used, and what you can expect to see after use.

Stage 1: Cellulose Outer Layer

The outer chamber contains a cellulose acetate matrix — the same material used in standard cigarette filters, but with higher density. As smoke passes through, large tar particles (above 1 micron) are mechanically captured by the fibres. This is the same principle as a mechanical air filter: particles too large to pass through the matrix are trapped on contact.

Stage 2: Activated Carbon Core

The inner core is packed with coconut-shell activated carbon with a surface area of over 1,100 m² per gram. This activated carbon adsorbs smaller residue molecules — including benzene, formaldehyde, and PAHs — at the molecular level. Activated carbon filtration is widely used in water purification, air filtration, and food processing for the same reason: its enormous surface area creates billions of microscopic adsorption sites.

Visible Proof: The Residue Test

After 4–6 cigarettes, open the TS Teer STOP filter and inspect the interior. You will see a dark brown residue — the accumulated tar that was trapped by both filtration stages. This visible residue is direct evidence of the filter's performance. Customer photos on Amazon consistently show this brown buildup, which is why TS Teer STOP has over 8,800 reviews.

Up to 70% Tar Reduction

Independent laboratory tests confirm that TS Teer STOP captures up to 70% of tar per cigarette — compared to approximately 12–18% for standard built-in filters. The 2-stage design is responsible for this performance gap: a single-stage cellulose filter can only capture the largest particles, while the activated carbon second stage handles the finer fraction.

Materials: BPA-Free, Food-Grade

The outer housing is made from BPA-free, food-grade plastic. The activated carbon used in the core is pharmaceutical-grade coconut-shell carbon, a material recognised for its chemical stability and widely used in food contact applications. The product complies with EU Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 on materials in contact with food.

Compatible Sizes

TS Teer STOP is available for regular cigarettes (8mm) and king size / slim cigarettes. Each filter fits securely over the cigarette tip without glue or modification. Disposable after 4–6 uses.
